Day 16 and 17

Our first day in Venice

We decided to try our luck on the Italian train system our first day going to Venice. It didn't turn out quite as expected because we bought a cheap ticket and accidentally got on the expensive train. When the steward checked our ticket he discovered the error and even though we pretended we couldn't speak or understand Italian (oh, actually we can't) he still charged us the full expensive ticket price but the train went really, really fast!

This has to be the most beautiful and unique city in the world. 2 days was not enough to see everything.

Here is Blanche feeling the pigeons in Saint Marco's square

Here is Blanche in front of Harry's bar. Ernest Hemmingway visited here many times as does celebrities today. We went for a drink here but left quickly as a Bellini cost 18.50 Euros and some of the tastier wines were $500.00/bottle.

An aerial view of Venice from the top of the tallest bell tower. We didn't have to walk any stairs for this one as there was an elevator.

Taking a short snack break before carrying on with the site seeing.

We decided not to take a gondola ride this time inVenice as we are saving it for when we return with our sweeties. Many of the gondoliers sang beautiful opera songs to their riders. It looked very romantic.

Day two took us to Murano, famous for it's glass and Burano, a tiny village with exquisite lace. They are two of the 118 islands that make up the Venice area. The water taxi took about 30 minutes to take us to these most splendid, quaint islands.

Finally a candid photo of the European beauty

Looks like we almost know how to read maps. Actually Bella was the only one who could actually tell where we were going In the cities with her superb map reading abilities
