Day 21

Today started at about 10:00 AM with a walk to the Paris Catacombs which is very close to our quaint little boutique hotel that has no elevator at the moment. Janice and Bella are on the 5th floor and Adrienne and Blanche are on the 7th!!

Macaroons seem to be one of the unique desserts in Paris but are not anything like what we know as a macaroon.

Cheese and more cheese or fromage as they say here.

This market was about a 5 minute walk from our hotel and at the fish stalls you could buy just about any kind of fish.

The catacombs are an amazing network of tunnels under the Montparnasse area of Paris containing the remains of approximately 45 million Parisians who were relocated from their parish graveyards to this underground location. We walked about 2 kilometers underground.

We proceeded on to the Montparnasse Cemetery, one of the only 4 left in Paris; Montparnasse is in the south; Montmartre in the north; Pere Lachaise in the east; Passy in the west.

From the Cemetery we wandered to Jardin du Luxenbourg. Around every corner was perfectly manicured color coordinated flower gardens. Even the trees have been pruned in perfect box shapes....true beauty.

We decided later in the day to take an evening cruise on the Seine. It was a great way to get familiar with the city's most stunning monuments, historical buildings and ornate bridges. No other river in the world has been the subject of such poetic fussing, frantic picture taking and all-around adulation.

This is the only reminder of our traveling companions for today.
